Fishing
In Sologne, anglers enjoy freshwater fishing at the edge of ponds and rivers. There are some 3,200 ponds (totalling almost 11,500 hectares of water), most of which are artificial, dating back to the time of Napoleon III.
In autumn, pond fishing remains a tradition. A few days before the official opening of the fishing season, the sluice gates are opened in order to drain the ponds. The fish trapped in the remaining water (carp, pike, pike-perch) become easy prey to catch…. with a net.
